Health and Community Development Volunteer (Peace Corps Rwanda 2010-2012)

Kathleen joined the Access Team in May 2010 and is working in Gakenke District. Kathleen’s duties include working to improve the infrastructure of the health centers in Gakenke District, focusing on the installation of running water, implementing a biogas system in one of the two hospitals in Gakenke District and working to improve the capacities of the health center staff in planning and coordination.

Before joining the Peace Corps, Kathleen was an administrative assistant for EuroTravNet network Marseille, Stockholm, Verona. From 2007-2008, Kathleen was an intern at Sante Sud, an international NGO working for sustainable health care in developing countries. Kathleen has also been a translator for medical articles in Marseille, France, an English teacher for children and adults in public schools and for private clients, a guidebook writer for the MTV Europe book, a university Researcher in Ibadan, Nigeria on traditional healing practices and a volunteer in a hospital and orphanage in Eldoret, Kenya. Kathleen received a university diploma from Faculté de médecine de Marseille in Humanitarian Health care and Health care in Tropical context. She holds bachelor’s degrees in Anthropology and French from Indiana University and a master’s degree in Engineering of Public Health Systems in Developing Countries from Faculté de médecine de Marseille.
